We are proud to have Dr. Klara Weaver supporting the Oxford Centennial Arctic Expeditions as our medical advisor.

Klara is an expedition doctor, wilderness medicine consultant, and qualified GP with extensive experience leading and supporting remote medical teams in some of the world’s harshest environments. Her career has taken her across the Himalayas, the Arctic, Central America, and Central Asia—often in support of expeditions operating far beyond the reach of conventional medical care. She holds a Diploma in Mountain Medicine and is a faculty member with several wilderness medicine training programmes in the UK and Europe.

With a deep understanding of both clinical care and field realities, Klara specializes in preparing teams for the medical, logistical, and psychological challenges of remote travel. She brings to the Oxford Centennial Arctic Expeditions a vital perspective on risk management, field safety, and cold-weather medicine.

In her role as medical advisor, Klara is helping train the student medics who will accompany each expedition. Her work includes teaching the fundamentals of polar and high-latitude health care: managing cold injuries, hypothermia, trauma, and illness in remote contexts; adapting clinical thinking to resource-limited settings; and maintaining team wellbeing under stress. Just as importantly, she is mentoring students in how to think clearly and lead calmly when conditions are at their worst.

Klara’s approach blends medical expertise with hands-on practicality. Her calm, clear teaching style and her real-world experience are helping to ensure that every Oxford expedition team leaves the UK with a strong medical foundation and a mindset grounded in preparation, responsibility, and mutual care.

We are deeply grateful to Klara for her role in shaping the next generation of field medics and for her generous support of student-led exploration.
